The D’Angelico Deluxe Hardshell Case for Excel EXL-1 & '59 Hollowbody guitars is a heavy-duty, form-fitted case custom-built by legendary case manufacturer TKL specifically to accommodate the unique, oversized dimensions and ornate styling of D’Angelico’s premier 16-inch and 17-inch hollowbody models.

Technical Specifications & Dimensions

Because D'Angelico guitars feature massive Art Deco headstocks and unique body contours, standard universal cases will not fit them. This case is tailor-made with the following dimensions:

• Overall Exterior Dimensions: 44.5" L x 18.5" W x 5.0" D ($113\text{ cm} \times 47\text{ cm} \times 12.7\text{ cm}$)

• Lower Bout Accommodation: Accommodates a 16-inch (Excel '59) to 17-inch (EXL-1) lower bout width.

• Body Depth Accommodation: Fits fully hollow depths up to 3 inches.

• Padding Thickness: 1-inch dense foam core padding.

• Interior Accessory Pocket: 7" L x 5.5" W x 3" D.

1. The Exterior Architecture

• Wood Core Structure: Built using a multi-ply, contoured wood shell that offers immense structural rigidity against crushing forces and impacts.

• Black Tolex / Heavy Vinyl Wrap: The exterior is lined with an ultra-tough, weather-resistant black Tolex/vinyl skin that protects against dings, road rash, moisture, and dust.

• Hardware & Security: Equipped with 5 heavy-duty gold-plated latches (including one locking latch near the handle) to ensure the case stays completely sealed during transit.

• The Headstock Vault: Engineered with extra length and depth at the top to safely clear the oversized D’Angelico "Excel" scroll headstock, preventing the tuners from rubbing against the walls.

2. The Interior Sanctuary

• Plush Velvet Lining: The interior is lined with a thick, non-abrasive grey plush velvet. It acts as a shock absorber and protects delicate nitrocellulose or polyurethane gloss finishes from scratching.

• Neck Support Cradle: Features a dedicated, raised neck cradle that elevates the fretboard, ensuring the guitar's weight is distributed evenly and shielding the vulnerable neck joint from snap-fractures if the case is dropped.

• Floating Bridge Accommodation: The lid and base padding are optimized to cushion the body without putting undue downward pressure on the unpinned wooden floating bridges common to the EXL-1 and '59 models.
