Please note: The CM602 is a condenser microphones, and requires phantom power from a mixing console or dedicated phantom power supply.
Condenser mics tend to be more sensitive and have an extended higher frequency response than most dynamic microphones which makes them more suitable for instruments that have more high frequency content (cymbals, hi-hats, etc) or quieter type instruments such as percussion and acoustic.
The CM602's compact size and discreet looks mean that you can get them into tight, awkward spaces and the black matt finish means that they do not reflect stage lights and so remain unobtrusive.
We took three CM602s to one of our regular gigs (we do sound hire as well as sales) and we checked them out.
The CM602 sounded great on hi-hats. Crisp and clear without any distortion. The CM602 also makes a very good drum overhead mic far out performing similarly priced dynamic type mics. Fortunately, one of the acts was using congas and in this role they really excelled. Again, far more sensitive and with much better high frequency detail than similarly priced dynamic mics.
Throughout the check, we found the CM602 produced enough sound and gain for all the applications without feeding back. The tight cardioid pickup pattern obviously helps in this department.
We'd recommend checking out the CM602. They are very affordable, and may allow users on tighter budgets to replace some of their mics where they've been employing cheaper dynamic type mics where they're not well suited, such as overheads, acoustic guitars, etc.
Self noise might be a slight issue for the most demanding of studio applications, but not really a problem for general purpose live use.
Condenser microphones tend not to be quite as rugged and robust as their dynamic counterparts, so we would recommend they are kept in a nice quality foam lined case, and, as with all mics, avoid dropping them!.
